Annual Buffet Evening - Entertainment by Bellfolk

Our first meeting of 2016 was the society,s New Year Party. Forty eight members attended the event. This year we returned to the Village Hall.

The catering was organised by a local business, the Old Catton Kitchen, run by Gail and Paul. A substantial buffet, consisting of a variety of savouries followed by a number of tempting desserts, was well received with many members opting to refill their plates. Members supplied their own liquid refreshment.

Following the meal entertainment was provided by “Bell Folk” a local handbell team based at Honingham where there has been a tradition of bell ringing for over 50 years, but now the members hail from all over Norfolk.

A traditional set of 100 year old handbells were used to perform a wide range of music ranging from a typically Japanese item, where bell ringing is very popular, to a selection from the “Lion King”.

At one stage in the performance members of the audience were given bells with the relevant written guide while the rest of us sang “My bonnie lies over the ocean”. A

After a short interval when the raffle was drawn the performance continued ending with a rousing version of “Jingle Bell Rock”.

Our thanks are due to those members of the committee who organised the event and to those who donated the wide selection of raffle prizes.

Bernard Brock.
